Founding & History:

The Nigeria Academy of Pharmacy (NAPharm) was formally inaugurated in 2014 to serve as the nation’s premier think tank for pharmaceutical leadership, education, and innovation. Its inaugural meeting was held in March 2014 in Lagos, culminating in a grand formal launch on June 26, 2014, chaired by former Head of State, General Yakubu Gowon.

During this historic launch, the Academy inducted 47 foundation Fellows—among them iconic figures such as the late Prof. Dora Akunyili—whose achievements and vision helped shape the Academy’s strategic direction and national relevance.

Under the founding leadership of Prince Julius Adelusi-Adeluyi, OFR, mni, FNAPharm, the Academy has grown in size, scope, and impact. As of 2024, over 130 distinguished Fellows have been inducted, with nine new Fellows honored during the Academy’s 10th-anniversary investiture held in September 2024.

NAPharm continues to build on this legacy—uniting leaders across academia, practice, policy, and industry to reposition pharmacy as a vital force in Nigeria’s healthcare transformation.
