The Mentorship Mandate: Building the Pharmacists Nigeria Needs

At the 2022 strategic retreat, the Nigeria Academy of Pharmacy emphasized that mentorship is no longer optional—it’s essential. A dedicated Mentorship Committee was formed to address the widening gap between pharmacy graduates and professional readiness.

The committee proposed structured mentoring programs that begin from undergraduate training and extend into clinical, academic, and industry careers. Key recommendations included:

Embedding mentorship in faculty culture

Encouraging soft skill development, including communication, ethics, and entrepreneurship

Supporting early-career pharmacists with guided transitions and peer networks

This vision reflects NAPharm’s belief that a confident, well-mentored pharmacist is essential to national health resilience.
