Regulate to Elevate: Fixing the Foundations of Pharmacy Practice
One of the most urgent messages from the retreat was the need to streamline pharmacy regulation in Nigeria. Fragmented responsibilities across multiple agencies, along with overlapping mandates, were identified as barriers to progress.
The Regulation Committee called for:
A centralized pharmaceutical regulatory framework
Accelerated passage of the Pharmacy Bill
Policies that incentivize local drug manufacturing and reduce reliance on imports
Creation of a national tracking system to ensure drug quality and accountability
As the retreat participants agreed, “Without regulatory clarity, there can be no consistent excellence in pharmaceutical care.”
